~ B E A U T Y H A S N O S E N S E O F T I M E ~
The jewelry we create is inspired by the hands of nature and art. Drawn from a broad spectrum of design ~ unique, eclectic, timeless - a fusion of current and historical trends in diverse cultures throughout history.
Rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, necklaces - for both women and men - handcrafted, by us from a wide range of natural materials, using modern and ancient metalsmithing techniques.
Over the past 44 years, we've been developing and learning to apply these skills and techniques to the art of jewelry design and fabrication.
From 1974-2000, we owned and operated an award-winning store in San Francisco, the Jerusalem Shoppe, which was a Bay Area hub known for its international selection of clothing, jewelry and accessories (so named initially to reflect our hope for a world hub - the city of Jerusalem - to be governed by an international/interfaith body). Through its 26 year history, our store won local and international recognition for its diverse and exceptional collection of jewelry from all over the world. Showcasing over 400 local, national and international jewelry artisans, it was singled out as the Best Jewelry Store in the Bay Area by local, national and international media. Chosen by Bay Area publications (San Francisco Chronicle, Bay Guardian, and S.F.Weekly), and by national and international guidebooks to San Francisco, it was featured yearly in the well-known Frommer's Guide to San Francisco as one of the five best jewelry stores in the Bay Area.
San Francisco Bay Guardian:
Voted one of three Best jewelry stores in San Francisco: "Two jewelry giants tied for first place in this category: Shreve & Co. and Tiffany & Co. However, the.... Jerusalem Shoppe wasn't far behind." (1974-2000)
Encinitas Business Recognition Association:
"Jewels & Co. has been selected as the winner of the 2013 Best of Encinitas for jewelry"
"Jewels & Co. has been selected as the winner of the 2014 Best of Encinitas for jewelry"
Here in San Diego for the past 16 years, our inspiration has given birth to a unique collection of handcrafted pieces. Drawn from a broad spectrum of design, from ancient to classical to contemporary, fusing current trends with historic influences, our jewelry has a timeless quality. It's an interpretation and interweaving of all the diverse elements that speak to us.
MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES
The rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings we make ~ many of which are one-of-a-kind ~ are hand-fabricated, for both women and men. We work with a wide range of materials ~ precious and semi-precious metals, stones and pearls (many of them, rare), leathers, neoprene, glass and shells. Our special techniques include ancient processes of metalwork from the Far East (Shakudo and Shibuichi from Japan and Kumbo from Korea); and fusing of metals through a unique process that joins them together without the use of solder; alloying of metals (sterling, gold, bronze and copper); lapidary (cutting and polishing from rough stone); mining (some of the stones we use have been mined by us, like opal from the deserts of Nevada); mold-making for casting designs. All these, in addition to all the usual techniques of silver- and gold-smithing: fabricating, stone setting, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, Kumbo, and assembly.
We make new designs every week. And we'll work with you to design custom pieces.
Feel free to contact us by email or phone if you'd like us to send you additional photos of any of our work.
If you're interested in purchasing any of the new pieces on the website, the prices include shipping, handling, and tax
